1 Nrtheast Birmingham Cmmunity Framewrk Kickff Meeting Summary The KickOff Meeting / Open Huse fr the Nrtheast Birmingham Framewrk Plan was held n Mnday, September 14th frm 6 7 PM at the Our Lady f Lurdes Cathlic Church Gymnasium. 123 residents and stakehlders shwed up fr the meeting t hear abut the framewrk planning prcess and t give input t the planning team at the City f Birmingham and the Reginal Planning Cmmissin f Greater Birmingham. The meeting began with an intrductin frm City f Birmingham staff as well as Mayr William Bell and Cuncilr Lashunda Scales. After the brief intrductin and presentatin, attendees were invited t participate in table exercises fr each individual cmmunity. Tables were set up by cmmunity fr East Pinsn Valley, Huffman, Rebuck Suth East Lake, and Cahaba. Meeting attendees Mayr Bell n the imprtance f the framewrk planning prcess

2 Activity Summary Each table cnsisted f 3 activities: I Imagine. : A whitebard and camera were at each statin where participants culd write ideas and thughts fr hw they imagine the future f their respective cmmunity. Issues and Opprtunity Banners: Large frmat banners were n the table where participants culd write abut issues they had in their cmmunity by fur different categries: Cmmunity Renewal (Health, Wellness, Security, Blight, Husing) Green Systems (Parks, Recreatin, Gardens, Strmwater Management) Ecnmic Vitality (Educatin, Wrkfrce Develpment, Business) Transprtatin and Infrastructure (Transit, Sidewalks, Street Imprvements) Dt Exercises: Large frmat maps f each cmmunity were placed n each table where participants culd place clr cded dts in specific areas under three categries: Red Places with issues r areas requiring attentin Yellw Areas that are gd but have pprtunity fr imprvement Green - Places that need t be preserved, cnserved, r that yu want t see mre f East Pinsn Valley residents participating in table exercises

3 Huffman Cmmunity The Huffman cmmunity frms the nrtheastern brder f the City f Birmingham. Huffman begins nrth f I-59 and Rebuck Springs. Its western brder includes Parkway East up until Five Mile Creek, where the neighbrhd f Killugh Springs spans west alng the creek t the Tarrant Spring Branch stream, which the neighbrhd generally fllws t the nrtheast as its nrthern brder. The nrthern sectin f Huffman in the Spring Lake neighbrhd generally has Brewster Rad and Dry Creek as its nrthern brder. The Liberty Highlands neighbrhd t the sutheast is between Irndale t its suthwest and Trussville t its nrtheast. Liberty Highlands brders the Cahaba cmmunity at I-20. 4 East Pinsn Valley Cmmunity The East Pinsn Valley cmmunity lies nrth f the Killugh Springs neighbrhd in the Huffman cmmunity. East Pinsn Valley s western brder is mstly the Pinsn Valley Parkway. The cmmunity shares brders with the cities f Center Pint t the east and Pinsn t the nrth. 5 Rebuck - Suth East Lake Cmmunity The Rebuck - Suth East Lake cmmunity begins nrth f Oprt Madrid Bulevard, brders the City f Irndale t the sutheast, edges I-59 and then travels up Parkway East n its eastern brder. The cmmunity is bund by Five Mile Creek at its nrthernmst pint and has a less defined nrthwestern brder as it snakes back dwn t I-59. 6 Cahaba Cmmunity The Cahaba cmmunity is lcated in the sutheast prtin f the City f Birmingham and is suth f the ther cmmunities in the Nrtheast Birmingham Framewrk Plan area. Cahaba brders Highway 280, parts f I-459, and a prtin f I-20. The Cahaba cmmunity is unique in its relatively lw ppulatin and amunt f develpable land in cmparisn t the ther cmmunities within the Nrtheast Framewrk Plan. The Cahaba area als has a prtin f the Cahaba River within its brder which is ne f the mst bilgically diverse rivers in the United States. Stakehlders representing Barber Mtr Sprts Park and the Cahaba River Sciety shwed up t give input regarding the planning prcess in this area.
