3 Lcatin Always lcate yur appliance away frm the edge f the wrktp. Ensure that the appliance is used n a firm, flat surface. D nt use the appliance utdrs r near water. WARNING: D nt place the appliance nt a metal tray r metal surface whilst in use. Mains cable D nt let the mains cable hang ver the edge f the wrktp where a child culd reach it. D nt let the mains cable run acrss an pen space e.g. between a lw scket and a table. D nt let the mains cable run acrss a cker r ther ht area which might damage the cable. The mains cable shuld reach frm the scket t the base unit withut straining the cnnectins. If the mains cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent r similarly qualified persn in rder t avid a hazard. Persnal safety Always keep the tp f the crdless base dry, especially arund the cnnectin area, discnnect the pwer supply befre drying. Allw t dry thrughly befre recnnectin t the pwer supply. D nt fill abve the MAX mark, therwise biling water may be ejected. Always pur ht water slwly and carefully withut tipping the appliance t fast t prevent splashing and spillage. WARNING: D nt pen the lid whilst the water is biling. D nt hld the switch in the On psitin r tamper with the switch t fix it in the On psitin, as this may cause damage t the switch-ff mechanism. Unplug frm the utlet befre cleaning. Allw the kettle t cl befre cleaning r remving/attaching parts. D nt mve the kettle whilst in use. Other safety cnsideratins The use f attachments r tls nt recmmended r sld by Mrphy Richards, may cause fire, electric shck r injury. The kettle is nly t be used with the crdless base prvided. D nt use the appliance fr any use ther than t bil water. The appliance must nt be n the base unit when being filled with water. Unplug frm the utlet when nt in use. WARNING: The appliance must nt be immersed fr cleaning. CAUTION: T prevent damage t the appliance, d nt use alkaline cleaning agents when cleaning. Use a sft clth and detergent. Electrical requirements Check that the vltage n the rating plate f yur appliance crrespnds with yur huse electricity supply which must be A.C. (Alternating Current). Shuld the fuse in the mains plug require changing, a 13 amp BS1362 fuse must be fitted. WARNING: This appliance must be earthed. 3

5 Befre first use Befre using the appliance fr the first time, fill with water, bil and pur away. Using yur kettle 1 Remve the Lid (3) using the Ring Pull (2). Fill the kettle with water. 2 Replace the Lid, ensuring the Lid is aligned crrectly with the arrw facing away frm the Handle (5) and twards the directin f the Sput (1). 3 Place the Kettle n the Crdless Base (7). 4 Press the On/Off Switch (6). The Switch will Illuminate. 5 When biled, the kettle will autmatically switch ff. Remve frm the Crdless Base. 6 Pur the water frm the kettle. CAUTION: The kettle will be ht Cleaning yur kettle WARNING: Always discnnect the plug frm the mains and allw the kettle t cl befre cleaning. Wipe the utside with a damp clth. IMPORTANT: D nt use abrasive cleaners n the utside f the kettle which may scratch the surface. Cleaning yur Filter (9) The Limescale Filter lcated within the Lid (3) f yur kettle is nt remvable. T Clean: 1. Mix sme descaler slutin with ht water in a small bwl. 2. Remve the Lid frm yur kettle and place in the bwl, d nt immerse the lid entirely. Leave fr 5 minutes. 3. Clean any remaining limescale frm the filter and rise thrughly. 4. Replace the Lid nt yur kettle. Descaling IMPORTANT: As this appliance is fitted with a cncealed element it must be descaled regularly. The frequency f descaling depends n usage and the hardness f the water in yur area. Excessive scale can cause the appliance t switch ff befre biling and may damage the element invalidating the warranty. It is essential that regular descaling takes place. Remve hard scale using a prprietary descaling prduct suitable fr stainless steel, glass r plastic. Fr stainless steel kettles please fllw the instructins carefully. Alternatively use citric acid crystals (available frm mst pharmacies) as fllws: 1. Fill the appliance 3/4 full, bil, then unplug the appliance (remve the crdless kettle frm the base unit) and stand it in an empty sink r bwl. 2. Gradually add 50g f citric acid crystals t the water, then leave the kettle t stand. D nt use a mre cncentrated slutin. 3. As sn as the effervescence subsides, empty the appliance and rinse it thrughly with cld water. 4. Wipe the utside f the appliance thrughly with a damp clth t remve all traces f acid which may damage the finish. IMPORTANT: Ensure that the electrical cnnectins are cmpletely dry befre using the appliance.
