If yu are unsure f any f the infrmatin cntained in this bklet, please cntact the Baumatic Technical Department. IMPORTANT: Any installatin wrk must be carried ut by a qualified electrician r cmpetent persn. The hd must be installed in accrdance with the installatin instructins and all measurements fllwed. If the cker hd is installed fr use abve a gas appliance then the prvisin fr ventilatin must be in accrdance with the Gas Safety Cdes f Practice BS.6172, BS.5440 & BS.6891 (Natural Gas) and BS.5482 (LP Gas) 1994, the Gas Safety (Installatin & Use) Regulatins, the Building Regulatins issued by the Department f the Envirnment, the Building Standards (Sctland) (Cnslidated) Regulatins issued by the Scttish Develpment Department. It is dangerus t alter the specificatins r t mdify this prduct. D nt tamper with it r attempt t mdify the appliance in any way. When installing the hd, ensure that the fllwing recmmended distances are bserved between the highest pint n the hb tp (including the burners) and the bttm f the cker hd: Electric ckers: Gas ckers: Cal/ il ckers: 700 mm 700 mm 800 mm IMPORTANT: DO NOT SET YOUR COOKER HOOD LESS THAN 700mm ABOVE YOUR COOKER. When installed between adjining wall cabinets, the cabinets must nt verhang the hb. 5

6 The edges f the cker hd are sharp be mindful f this as yu handle yur appliance, especially during installatin and cleaning. DO NOT CLEAN IN BEHIND THE GREASE FILTERS! If the rm where the cker hd is t be used cntains a fuel burning appliance such as a central heating biler then its flue must be f the sealed r balanced flue type. If ther types f flue r appliances are fitted, ensure that there is an adequate supply f air in the rm. When the hd is being used in its extractr functin, ensure that the ducting is fire retardant and that there are n bends sharper than 90 degrees as this will reduce the efficiency f the hd. Ensure the ducting fr the extractr functin has the same diameter as the utlet hle all the way thrugh. Keep yung children frm using, playing with r tampering with the cker hd. Older children and infirm persns shuld be supervised if they are using the cker hd. Yur cker hd is fr dmestic use nly. Please dispse f the packing material carefully children are especially vulnerable t it. Dirty il is an even greater fire risk. Always put lids n pts and pans when cking n a gas cker. The manufacturer refuses t accept any respnsibility fr damages arising t the hd r it catching n fire, frm a failure t bserve the fire safety advice cntained in this instructin bklet. 6

7 Remember that when in extractin mde, yur cker hd is remving air frm yur rm. Ensure that prper ventilatin measures are being bserved. Nte that it remves durs frm yur rm, nt steam. Warning - Always ensure that the cker hd has been discnnected frm the pwer supply befre carrying ut any wrk n the hd, including replacing light bulbs. D nt cnnect the ducting system f this appliance t any existing ventilatin system which is being used fr any ther purpse. D nt install abve a cker with a high level grill. Never leave frying pans unattended during use as verheated fats and ils might catch fire. D nt leave naked flames under the cker hd. D nt attempt t use the cker hd if it is damaged in any way. Never attempt t use it withut the grease filters fitted r if the filters are excessively greasy! Never flambé ck under this cker hd. The lights n this appliance shuld nly be used during peratin f the cker hd. They shuld nt be left n permanently and used as a lighting surce. The cker hd shuld nt be expsed t a direct heat surce frm the cking device underneath it, i.e. a naked flame frm a gas burner r heat frm electric hb znes withut a pan n them. 10 Using yur Baumatic cker hd Befre first use IMPORTANT: THIS PROCESS MUST BE FOLLOWED BEFORE THE COOKER HOOD IS USED FOR THE FIRST TIME. Yu shuld use a gd quality stainless steel cleaner n ALL f the stainless steel areas f yur cker hd, befre it is used fr the first time. This will help t leave a silicne water-resistant film t prtect the stainless steel surfaces. T use yur cker hd Make sure that it has been installed by a suitably qualified persn, as per the infrmatin cntained in Baumatic s installatin instructins. Find the cntrl panel, which is lcated in the middle f the canpy. There are several buttns n the cntrl panel, which perfrm separate functins. Press the Add/ON buttn t switch the cker hd n. The hd will start t run at its lwest speed. The cker hd has three perating speeds; lw, medium and high. Use the Add/ON buttn t increase the speed and use the Dec/OFF buttn t decrease the speed that it is perating at. The perating speed that yu have selected will appear n the LCD display. If yu press the Dec/OFF buttn when the hd is perating at its lwest speed, then the hd will switch ff. 10

11 Press the Light buttn t switch the bulbs n and ff. Yu can switch the lights n, even if the hd is nt perating. IMPORTANT: IDEALLY YOU SHOULD TURN ON YOUR HOOD TEN MINUTES BEFORE YOU START TO COOK, OR AT THE VERY LEAST WHEN YOU BEGIN COOKING. YOU SHOULD ALSO RUN YOUR HOOD FOR TEN MINUTES AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED COOKING. Setting the time f day Press and hld the timer buttn, until the first tw digits f the display start t flash. Release the timer buttn, then use the Add/ON buttn and Dec/OFF buttn t set the hur time. Press the timer buttn again and the secnd tw digits f the display will start t flash. Use the Add/ON buttn and Dec/OFF buttn t set the minute time. Once the time f day is shwn crrectly n the display, press the timer buttn fr the third time t cnfirm it. The timer Yu can use the cker hd s timer, t set the cker hd t run fr a particular perid f time and then switch ff. Yu can get the cker hd t cuntdwn fr the fllwing perids f time:- N. f pushes f the timer Length f time (in minutes) buttn the cker hd will perate fr 1 5 minutes 2 15 minutes 3 30 minutes 4 Timer functin cancelled Once yu have set a cuntdwn perid, the cker hd will start t cuntdwn. The time remaining until the cker hd shuts ff will shw n the display. When the cuntdwn time has been reached, 00:00 will appear and the cker hd will stp running. 11

12 Cleaning yur Baumatic cker hd IMPORTANT: BEFORE CLEANING, ALWAYS ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE SWITCHED YOUR COOKER HOOD OFF AT THE OMNI-POLAR SWITCH, SET AT THE WALL FROM THE CABLE. Cleaning Clean the external parts f yur cker hd with mild liquid detergent and a new damp clth. Never use abrasive pwder, crrsive slvents r brushes. Never insert pinted bjects int the mtr s prtective grid. Only clean the cntrl panel and grease filter grill with mild liquid detergents and a new damp clth. If yu are using the appliance in recirculatin mde, then be sure t replace the carbn filter at the recmmended interval (see sectin n Fitting the carbn filter ). A build up f grease culd cause a fire hazard. Never attempt t clean the area abve the grease filters. The grease filter Yur cker hd includes a grease filter which helps t absrb grease particles t prtect yur kitchen & furniture frm greasy residues. This metallic filter may becme inflammable if they becme saturated with this greasy residue. T prevent this fire hazard, the filter shuld be cleaned regularly. Depending n use, this shuld be dne every days r at least nce a mnth, using ht water and nrmal washing-up detergent. DO NOT WASH THE GREASE FILTER IN A DISHWASHER. 12

13 Maintenance Remving and cleaning the grease filter First remve the grease filter by pulling dwn n the handle and pulling them away frm the cker hd. Sak the grease filter in ht water and washing up liquid fr abut an hur. Rinse it ff thrughly with ht water. Repeat the prcess if required. Refit the grease filter nce it has dried. IMPORTANT: Let the grease filter dry thrughly befre refitting it in the cker hd. 13

14 Changing a light bulb IMPORTANT: BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB, YOU MUST ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE DISCONNECTED THE COOKER HOOD FROM YOUR MAINS SUPPLY. Remve the grease filter (as described n page 13). Prir t tuching the light bulbs ensure that they have cled dwn. Find the bulb that requires replacement, yu will find it lcated in the light fixture which is inside the expsed sectin f the canpy. Use a screwdriver t remve the glass cver that sits ver the bulb. Unscrew the light bulb that needs t be replaced and insert a new G4 20W (max) bulb. Then replace the glass cver. IMPORTANT: Defective bulbs shuld be replaced immediately. If the lights still d nt wrk, make sure that the bulbs are fitted prperly int their husings befre yu call fr technical assistance. Refit the grease filter. 14

15 Fitting the carbn filters If the appliance is being used t be used in recirculatin mde then it is necessary t fit carbn filters. This will help t absrb unpleasant durs caused by cking. IMPORTANT: BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO FIT OR REMOVE THE CARBON FILTERS, YOU MUST ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE DISCONNECTED THE COOKER HOOD FROM YOUR MAINS SUPPLY. 1) Remve the grease filters. 2) Hk the carbn filter ver the pins that are lcated at the end f the mtr. 3) Turn the carbn filter anticlckwise, until yu feel it click int place. Repeat this prcess fr the secnd carbn filter. Yu need t place a carbn filter at either end f the mtr. Refit the grease filter. The carbn filters shuld be replaced every three mnths r if they shw signs f damage. 15

16 Installatin IMPORTANT: Befre installatin and usage read all the instructins and make sure that the vltage (V) and the frequency (Hz) indicated n the rating plate are exactly the same as the vltage and frequency in yur hme. The rating plate can be fund behind the grease filter. The manufacturer declines all respnsibility in the event f the installer failing t bserve all the accident preventin regulatins in frce, which are necessary fr nrmal use and the regular peratin f the electric system. Electrical cnnectin YOUR COOKER HOOD IS INTENDED FOR FITTED AND PERMANENT INSTALLATION. The cker hd s pwer cable must be fitted upstream frm the electrical cnnectin, using an mni-plar switch with a cntact distance f at least 3 mm. THE FUSE MUST BE RATED AT 3 AMPS. WARNING: THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED. It shuld nly be cnnected by a cmpetent persn, using fixed wiring via a duble ple switched fused spur utlet. (UK ONLY). We recmmend that the appliance is cnnected by a qualified electrician, wh is a member f the N.I.C.E.I.C. and wh will cmply with the I.E.E. and lcal regulatins. The wires in the mains lead are clured in accrdance with the fllwing UK cde: Blue = Neutral, Brwn = Live, Green/Yellw = Grund If yu nly find tw wires in the main s lead (blue and brwn), then neither must be cnnected t the earth terminal. 16

17 As the clurs f the wires in the appliance s mains lead may nt crrespnd with the clured markings identifying the terminals in yur spur bx, please prceed as fllws: The blue wire must be cnnected t the terminal marked N (neutral), r clured black. The brwn wire must be cnnected t the terminal marked L (live), r clured red. Befre beginning installatin Check that the prduct purchased is f a suitable size fr the chsen installatin area. In additin check whether there is an electrical scket available that will be accessible nce the hd is munted. If the prduct is ging t be used in extractin mde, then there shuld als be space t cnnect a ducting hse t the utside. Carry ut all necessary masnry wrk prir t the fitting f the cker hd. Ensure that all electrical cnnectins are carried ut by a suitably qualified persn. Befre cmmencing installatin f the cker hd the grease filters shuld be remved. Check inside the prduct and insure that there is n transit packaging r any ther materials, such as packets f screws, guarantees etc. These shuld be remved and kept fr future use. If pssible, discnnect and mve freestanding r slt-in ckers frm their psitin, t prvide easier access t the rear wall and ceiling. If this is nt pssible, then a thick, prtective cvering shuld be placed ver the wrktp, hb tp r cker. This will help t prtect these surfaces frm damage and debris. Select a flat surface fr assembling the cker hd. Cver that surface with a prtective cvering and place all cker hd parts and fittings n t it. Rawl plugs are prvided t secure the hd t mst types f walls and ceilings. Hwever a qualified technician must verify the suitability f the materials, in accrdance with the type f wall and ceiling. The wall and ceiling must be strng enugh t take the weight f the hd. 17

18 D nt tile, grut r silicne this appliance t the wall. This appliance is designed t be surface munted nly. Installing yur cker hd IMPORTANT: YOU WILL HAVE TO DECIDE BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR COOKER HOOD WHETHER TO USE IT IN EXTRACTION MODE OR RECIRCULATION MODE. PLEASE TURN TO PAGE 24 NOW TO UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THESE TWO MODES. We recmmend that at least tw peple install this hd. IMPORTANT: YOUR COOKER HOOD SHOULD BE CONNECTED TO YOUR MAINS SUPPLY AFTER THE REST OF THE INSTALLATION PROCESS HAS BEEN COMPLETED. 1) Remve the metal grease filters. 2) Psitin the hd against the wall that yu are intending t install it n and mark the psitin f the supprt hles that are t be drilled (as shwn in the figure belw). 18

19 2a) The supprt screw hles are indicated by figure A in this drawing and the anchring screw hles are indicated by figure B. 3) Using a drill bit with a 8 mm diameter, make hles in the wall n the psitins that yu have marked in step 2. 4) Insert raw plugs int all f the hles that yu have drilled. 5) Fasten the supprt screws halfway in, leaving them 10 mm ut f the wall. 19

20 6) Hang the hd nt the supprt screws. 7) Fully tighten the supprt screws (A) and then screw the anchring screws (B) thrugh the relevant hles in the cker hd. Tighten the anchring screws fully int the wall 20

21 Cnnecting t external ducting 8) Cnnect the cupling t the tp f the cker hd, and then cnnect a 125 mm ducting hse t the cupling (please nte that the ducting hse is nt supplied with the appliance). The ther end f the ducting hse shuld be cnnected t yur discharge utlet that is suitable fr cking vapurs. It shuld have a crss sectin f at least 150 cm². The maximum distance between the cupling and yur discharge utlet shuld be 3 metres, with ne 90 degree bend. Fitting the chimney 9) Take the tw chimney sectins (C and D). Rest the bttm f chimney sectin C n the tp f the hd. Yu shuld take care t psitin the tabs n the chimney sectin int the rear f the hd. Mark the side measurement f bth sides f chimney sectin C n the wall with a pencil. 21

22 10) Lift chimney sectin D upwards until it reaches the ceiling. Yu must ensure that it is perpendicular t the hd. Mark the side measurement f bth sides f chimney sectin D n the wall with a pencil and then remve chimney sectin D. 11) Take the fixing bracket (E) and place it between the tw pencil marks that yu made in step 9 Keeping the bracket in cntact with the wall, use a pencil t mark n the wall the anchring hles that are cut ut f the bracket 22

23 12) Using a 8 mm drill bit, drill ut tw hles n the pencil markings that yu made in step 11. Insert raw plugs int the hles and then use a screwdriver t secure the fixing bracket t the wall. Refit chimney sectin C t the hd and fix it nt the hd using the tw screws that are supplied. Secure the tp f chimney sectin C t the fixing bracket, using the screws prvided. Slide chimney sectin D inside f chimney sectin C. Then secure the upper bracket t the wall, using the same methd as yu have just used t secure the lwer bracket. 13) Lift chimney sectin D up t the ceiling and secure it t the fixing bracket using the screws prvided. 23

24 Attaching the glass canpy (BTC9750GL nly) The anchring blts (F) shuld be fund with the ther brackets and screws prvided with the cker hd. If yu find them already attached t the cker hd, then yu shuld unscrew them. Carefully place the glass sectin (Q) n the upper surface f the cker hd and then slide it back twards the wall. Screw the anchring blts (F) thrugh the relevant hles in the glass sectin (Q). IMPORTANT: Yu must ensure that the glass sectin is securely held in place by the anchring blts. Hwever the anchring blts must nt be ver tightened, therwise excessive pressure culd be placed n the glass sectin. 24

25 Cmpleting the installatin If yu are setting the appliance t recirculatin mde, then yu shuld nw fit the tw carbn filters. See the Fitting the carbn filters sectin n page 15. The electrical cnnectin must crrespnd t the electrical requirement nted n the rating plate, which is placed inside the cker hd. The appliance shuld nw be cnnected t the electrical supply. See page fr detailed infrmatin n the electrical cnnectin. Use a stainless steel cleaner n the stainless steel sectins f the appliance. Refit the grease filter and then switch n the mains supply t the appliance. Check that the appliance is perating crrectly by selecting each speed and switching the light bulbs n and ff. Extractin mde r recirculatin mde? What is the difference between extractin and recirculatin mdes? T get ptimum perfrmance frm yur cker, the air will be taken ut f the rm via external ducting. Unfrtunately if yu live in a flat r the hd is t far frm an utside wall, this may nt be pssible. The nly alternative is t recirculate the air. In recirculatin mde stale air is taken via the grease filter, and passed thrugh a charcal filter fr purificatin. The air then re-enters the kitchen via an pening in the hd. What is a charcal filter and d I need ne? All cker hds have a grease filter but if yu are using yur cker hd in recirculatin mde, then a charcal filter must be fitted in additin t the grease filter. 25

26 Trubleshting IMPORTANT: If yur cker hd appears nt t be perating prperly, befre cntacting the Baumatic Service Department, please refer t the checklist belw. My cker hd will nt start. Check that the hd is cnnected t the electricity supply Check that the fan speed cntrl is set crrectly. My cker hd is nt wrking effectively. The fan speed is nt set high enugh The grease filters are dirty and require cleaning. The kitchen is nt well ventilated enugh. If the hd is set up fr recirculatin mde, check carbn filters d nt need replacing. that the If the hd is set up fr extractin mde, check that the ducting hse and discharge utlet are nt blcked. My cker hd has switched ff during peratin. The safety cut-ut device has been tripped. Turn ff the hb and then wait fr the safety cut-ut device t reset. IMPORTANT: If yu have installed yur cker hd t lw, the safety cut-ut device will frequently trip. Yur cker hd may becme damaged if the safety cut-ut device is tripped frequently. 26

27 IMPORTANT: If yur appliance appears nt t be perating crrectly, then yu shuld discnnect it frm yur mains supply and then cntact the Baumatic Service Department n telephne number (0118) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE APPLIANCE YOURSELF. Please nte that if an engineer is asked t attend whilst the prduct is under guarantee and finds that the prblem is nt the result f an appliance fault, then yu may be liable fr the cst f the call ut charge. The appliance must be accessible fr the engineer t perfrm any necessary repair. If yur appliance is installed in such a way that an engineer is cncerned that damage will be caused t the appliance r yur kitchen, then he will nt cmplete a repair. This includes situatins where appliances have been tiled in, sealed in with sealant, have wden bstructins placed in frnt f the appliance, like plinths. Or any installatin ther than the ne specified by Baumatic Ltd. has been cmpleted. Please refer t the cnditins f guarantee that appear n the warranty card that yu receive with the appliance. 27
