IMPORTANT SAFETY ADVICE AND GENERAL WARNINGS All Capital Fireplaces Ltd electric fires meet the requirements f the EC directives 2004/108/EC, 2006/95/EC, 2015/1186 and 2015/1188 Please read these instructins thrughly befre use and retain them fr future reference. CAUTION - The heater must nt be sited r used where it may cme int cntact with water, fr example but nt exclusively, in wet rms, bathrms, swimming pls r laundries. CAUTION - Only cntrl the appliance using the manual peratins r the supplied remte cntrl described in this manual. D nt use this heater with a prgrammer, timer, separate remte cntrl system r any ther device that switches the heater n autmatically, since a fire risk exists if the heater is cvered r psitined incrrectly. CAUTION Sme parts f this appliance can becme very ht and cause burns. CAUTION: In rder t avid a hazard due t inadvertent resetting f the thermal cut-ut, this appliance must nt be supplied thrugh an external switching device, such as a timer, r cnnected t a circuit that is regularly switched n and ff by the utility. D nt use the appliance in rms with explsive gas (e.g. petrl) r while using inflammable glue r slvent (e.g. when gluing r varnishing parquet flrs, PVC etc.) D nt insert any bjects int the appliance. Switch ff and islate the appliance frm the mains supply when nt in use r befre cleaning and maintenance. This appliance must be cnnected t a 220/240V AC 50Hz supply. This appliance is intended fr dmestic husehld use nly and shuld nt be used fr any ther purpse r in any ther appliance, such as fr nn-dmestic use r in a cmmercial envirnment. This appliance is nt intended fr use r cleaning by children under 8 years f age, thse persns with reduced physical, sensry r mental capabilities r persns with insufficient experience r knwledge unless suitable training and supervisin has been prvided t ensure the safe use f the appliance and t ensure that the hazards invlved are fully understd. Children aged less than 3 years shuld be kept away frm the appliance unless cntinuusly supervised. Children aged ver 3 years and less than 8 years shall nly switch the appliance n r ff, prvided that it has been sited in its intended nrmal perating psitin and they have been given suitable instructin and supervisin cncerning the safe use f the appliance and they understand the hazards invlved. Children aged ver 3 and less than 8 years shall nt plug in, regulate, clean nr maintain the appliance. Children f any age shuld nt be permitted t play with the appliance r its cntrls. Never rute the supply cable near the heater utlet f the appliance r under flr cverings. If the supply crd is damaged, it must be replaced by a suitably cmpetent and qualified persn. The appliance must nt be sited within 1m f cmbustible items such as curtains, lse drapes r furnishings. It is recmmended that this appliance is nt used n deep pile carpets r fluffy rugs. The heater must nt be used t dry wet r damp bjects such as clthes. 1
3 Remve exhausted batteries frm the remte cntrl unit and dispse f safely. Attentin is drawn t the envirnmental aspects f battery dispsal. Dn t thrw used batteries in dustbin. Different types f batteries r new and used batteries are nt t be mixed. Batteries f the same r equivalent type as recmmended are t be used. Batteries are t be inserted with the crrect plarity. The appliance is supplied with a pwer lead cmplete with a mulded 13 Amp UK three-pin plug t cnnect int a standard UK scket utlet. This appliance must be earthed. The plug must be easily accessible after siting the appliance. Shuld a new fuse be required, cnsult a cmpetent persn t establish the reasn fr the fuse perating. Only nce the fault is rectified shuld a new 13A fuse be inserted int the plug. Use nly a dry duster r vacuum cleaner with brush attachment t clean the appliance. Never use abrasive cleaners, water, steam cleaners r aersls n r near the appliance. This appliance has a safety thermal cut-ut device. If this perates, then firstly islate the appliance frm the mains and then check fr bstructins t the air flw and remve them. This culd be fluff under the fire, fr example. Once the bstructin(s) have been remved, let the appliance cl dwn fr 15 minutes and then recnnect the appliance t the mains and try the appliance again. If the issue persists, then seek the advice f a cmpetent persn. This appliance perates using tw mtrs (ne fr the flame effect and anther fr the fan heater) which when perating emit a lw level f nise. This is nrmal. 2. REMOTE CONTROL BATTERY WARNING: Only adults shuld handle the batteries. D nt allw a child t use the remte cntrl unless the battery cver is securely attached t the battery cmpartment. The battery type used in this remte cntrl is ne CR2025 3V battery. The battery is lcated internally. T replace the battery fllw the guidelines n the rear f the hand set. All batteries must be dispsed f at yur lcal recycling pint. DO T SWALLOW ANY BATTERIES! 3. CONTENTS Please check that the fllwing cmpnents are included within the bx. If anything is missing r damaged, please cntact the retailer and d nt use the appliance until yu have everything. 4 4. OPERATION SETTING UP Ensure the appliance is prperly placed n a stable, flat and level surface. The trailing kettle-type scket can be psitined t the left r right f the appliance. Plug the kettle-type lead int this scket and then plug the 13 Amp plug it int the mains scket. The main pwer and heater switches are lcated under the canpy f the appliance. The indicatr screen display shws the settings described later. The numbers and letters will extinguish 5 secnds after the last buttn press. INLET AIR MANUAL CONTROLS HOT AIR OUTLET INLET AIR FLAME EFFECT SCREEN PLACE COALS HERE 3.1 MANUAL OPERATION INDICATOR SCREEN FLICKER EFFECT FUEL BED INLET AIR TRAILING KETTLE-TYPE LEAD MAIN POWER SWITCH - Turn n the main pwer by switching t the I psitin. T turn pwer ff, switch the main pwer t the O psitin. A beep will be heard and nw the appliance is in standby mde. The main pwer switch must be switched ON fr manual cntrl befre setting up. MANUAL CONTROL SWITCH This buttn cntrls the illuminatin f the fuel bed and flame effect as well as the peratin f the tw stage fan heater. Press this cntrl switch nce t illuminate nly the flicker effect fuel bed and the flame effect a 0 and green light shws n the screen, fllwed by the ambient temperature lcal t the fire and then turns ff. Pressing the buttn again turns n the first heating stage (900W) a 1 and amber light shws n the screen, fllwed by the ambient temperature lcal t the fire and then disappears. Pressing the buttn a third time turns n the secnd f the tw heating stages (1800W ttal) a 2 and red light shws, fllwed by the ambient temperature lcal t the fire and then disappears. The secnd stage gives an extra heating bst. T cmpletely turn ff the fan heater and flame effect, press this buttn a furth time the red standby light then illuminates and remains n until the unit is islated r reactivated. The fan will run n fr 10 secnds after the heating stages have been turned ff. 3.2 OPERATION USING THE REMOTE CONTROLLER Ensure the battery prtectin tab has been remved frm the bttm f the remte cntrl hand set befre use. The remte cntrl must nrmally remain within 3 meters f the fire t be effective. It can wrk up t 5m away. Ensure that the fire is plugged int the mains and the main pwer switch is ON manually befre using the remte cntrller, therwise the remte cntrller will nt wrk. 3
5 ON-OFF - Press this buttn t activate the appliance and turn n the flame picture. green light will shw n the screen fr 5 secnds. A FLAME EFFECT BRIGHTNESS - Press this buttn t set the flame effect brightness fr the screen nly. The first press will start the brightness cycling frm its brightest t its dimmest. During this cycling mde, a green light will display n the screen. The secnd press will stp the cycling at the brightness f yur chice and the green light will disappear. The flame picture will turn n at its brightest level each time the fire is turned n. Capital Fires HEATER - Press this buttn t activate the first heating stage (900W). The number 1 and an amber light will display n the screen fr 5 secnds, fllwed by the ambient temperature near the fire. Press it again t active the secnd f the tw stages f heating fr an extra bst f heat (1800W). The number 2 and a red light will display n the screen fr 5 secnds, fllwed by the ambient temperature near the fire. The third press f this buttn will turn ff the heaters and shw 0 n the screen and a green light fr 5 secnds, fllwed by the ambient temperature near the fire. The fan will run n fr 10 secnds after the heating stages have been turned ff. This buttn has n effect if the thermstat has been set. THERMOSTAT - Press this buttn t set the desired target temperature in degrees Celsius. There are 5 temperature settings(18, 21, 24, 27, 30 ) shwn n the screen, cycling with each press f this buttn. Once the target temperature has been set and the display n the screen has disappeared, press this buttn again until 30 is displayed and then nce mre t cancel the set up. If the appliance has been set t maintain a particular temperature, the appliance will autmatically select ne r tw stages f heating depending n the ambient temperature near the fire. Once that temperature, plus 3 is reached the heater(s) will autmatically turn ff. The fan will run n fr 10 secnds after the heating stages have been turned ff. If the ambient temperature drps 2 belw the target temperature then the fan heater will turn n autmatically. If the ON OFF buttn is pressed nce the thermstat functin is activated, then that target temperature will be cancelled. TIMER - Press this buttn t set the timer functin fr up t 6 hurs, in ne hur increments. With each press f this buttn the number n the screen increases by ne, until 6 is reached. The next press will cancel the timer functin. If yu set the timer at say, 2 hurs, the timer will cmmence its cuntdwn and turn the appliance back t standby mde in 2 hurs time. 4
6 5. SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE There are n user-serviceable cmpnents t this appliance d nt attempt t service the appliance. If there are issues that cannt be reslved with yur appliance, then please cntact yur retailer. It is recmmended that this appliance is serviced every year by a cmpetent persn. It must nt be serviced r repaired withut islating it frm the mains befre cmmencing the service. Use nly a clean dry duster t clean the surfaces f the appliance. DO T use water, abrasive cleaners, steam r ther husehld/industrial prducts r cleaners. Hard flr cverings in particular, but all flr cverings cause fluff that can be drawn int the air intakes. Frm time-t-time and n less than every tw mnths, islate the fire frm the mains and attach the brush accessry t yur vacuum cleaner and gently vacuum the air intakes and utlets. Please refer t n the diagram n page TROUBLESHOOTING IF IN DOUBT islate the appliance and seek prfessinal advice The unit des nt switch n: Making sure it is safe t d s, check the mains supply Making sure it is safe t d s, check the fuse in the mains supply Change the battery in the remte cntrl handset If nne f the abve wrk, then please refer t yur retailer The heater smells f burning: On first uses there may be a smell as the heating elements burn ff residual depsits frm manufacture. After perids f n use, dust can settle n the elements and will burn ff. Excessive dust and fluff is a fire risk and shuld be eliminated by fllwing the service and maintenance steps abve. When the heater is switched n it cuts itself ff. This culd be the nrmal peratin f the thermstat having been set t a target temperature, and is fine. This culd be the safety thermal cut-ut device perating. If this perates, then firstly islate the appliance frm the mains and then check fr bstructins t the air flw and remve them. This culd be fluff under the fire, fr example. Once the bstructin(s) have been remved, let the appliance cl dwn fr 15 minutes and then recnnect the appliance t the mains and try the appliance again. If the issue persists, then seek the advice f a cmpetent persn. The appliance seems t wrk, but n lights are illuminated Please refer t yur retailer The fuel bed flickers This is nrmal and is a feature f the appliance giving a realistic flickering ember effect. The fan heater is nisy This is nrmal all fan heaters are audible as the fan is the methd f distributing the heat frm the heating elements t the rm. The thermstat reading n the screen des nt match the rm temperature. The thermstat reading is f the ambient temperature in the immediate vicinity f the fire. It may be necessary t set a higher target temperature in sme instances.
