3 Purpse f Manual This dcument is intended t assist apartment prperty and maintenance managers in maintaining a safe envirnment fr all f their residents. Prepare, maintain, and furnish t the Bise Fire Department Apartment Infrmatin Cntact Infrmatin Site Map Maintain an accurate rster shwing residents with issues that may present a unique rescue challenge. 4 Fire Prtectin Systems Fire Extinguishers Prtable fire extinguishers (where required) shall be s lcated that n pint in the building is lcated mre than 75 feet, by an unbstructed path f travel, frm a prtable fire extinguisher. Fire Alarm and Detectin Systems, and Autmatic Sprinkler Systems Apartments with Fire Alarm and Detectin Systems shall be Inspected, Tested, and Maintained annually by apprved Fire Prtectin Maintained in an perative cnditin at all times, and shall be replaced r repaired where defective. Knx Bx The Internatinal Fire Cde (IFC), as amended by Bise City Ordinance , requires key bxes fr all structures with fire alarm r fire sprinkler systems which are cnnected t a mnitring service. Assemble and label all f the fllwing keys fr placement int the KNOX-BOX: Master key (green label) If a master key is nt available prvides keys fr access t all entrances, mechanical rms, electrical rms, rf access and ther areas at the discretin f the fire cde fficial. A larger KNOX-BOX maybe required Fire alarm key(s) (red label) if applicable Padlck key(s) if applicable Elevatr key (blue label) if applicable Pass key r access cntrl card (white label) if applicable Multiple sets f keys shall be required fr large, multi-stry r multi-tenant buildings and may require a larger KNOX-BOX: 1-2 stries 1 set 3-4 stries 2 sets 5 and mre stries 4 sets >50,000 sq. ft but less than 100,000 2 sets >100,000 sq. ft. Cntact the fire cde fficial Multi-tenant 1 set/tenant (unless master keyed) Ensure yu have the frnt cver plate fr the KNOX-BOX ready. Cntact the fire statin wh is respnsible fr the area which was previusly prvided. The fire statin will set up an appintment t clse up the KNOX-BOX. The fire statin will verify keys and labeling and the lck the KNOX-BOX. Change f Lcks Any change f lcks r keys shall require the wner/ccupant t prvide new keys t the fire department. T have keys added r replace please fllw the prcedure belw: Cntact the fire statin wh is respnsible fr the area. If unaware f the respnsible statin, please cntact the Bise City Fire Department at (208) The fire statin will set up an appintment t change the keys. The fire statin will verify keys and labeling and the lck the bx.

5 Cking Fires Of the mre than 157,000 estimated hme structure fires, including apartments, reprted annually during the perid , cking caused 42 percent f the fires, 38 percent f injuries, and 15 percent f deaths. Unattended cking was the leading cntributing factr t these fires and fire deaths. Three f every five nn-fatal hme cking fire injuries ccurred when the victims tried fighting the fire. Apartment Owners and Managers are encuraged t pursue cking cntrls that limit the pssibility f fire. An additinal benefit may be a reductin in insurance discunts r premium reductins. A variety f fire preventin technlgies exist, including: Replacement electric burners that limit the high temperature f the burner t belw the aut-ignitin pint f cking ils and mst cmmn husehld materials. Replacement knbs that alert when cking is left unattended. Micrwave ven electric plug that shuts ff at the first sign f smke. While it is preferable t nt have a cking fire start at all, there are lw cst prducts available t aid in suppressing cking fires.

6 Open-Flame Cking Devices & LP-Gas Strage Open-Flame Cking Devices (LP-Gas). LP-gas fueled pen-flame cking devices shall nt be perated n cmbustible balcnies (abve the first stry) r within 10 feet f cmbustible cnstructin (e.g., stucc ver wd framing). Exceptins: 1. One and tw-family dwellings. 2. LP-gas cking devices having LP-gas cntainer with a water capacity nt greater than 2 ½ punds [nminal 1 pund LP-gas capacity]. Open-Flame Cking Devices (charcal/slid fuel). Charcal r slid fueled pen-flame cking devices shall nt be perated n cmbustible balcnies (abve the first stry) r within 10 feet f cmbustible cnstructin. Exceptins: 1. One and tw-family dwellings. 2. Where buildings, balcnies and decks are prtected by an autmatic sprinkler system. LP-Gas Strage within Residential Buildings. Strage f LP-Gas cylinders within a residential building (under the hrizntal prjectin f the rf, flr r balcny abve), including the basement r any strage area in a cmmn basement f a multiple-family buildings and attached r detached garages, shall be limited t cylinders each with a maximum water capacity f 2.7 lb. [nminal 1 lb. LP-gas capacity] and shall nt exceed 5.4 lb. aggregate water capacity per each living space unit. LP-Gas Strage n Exterir Balcnies f Residential Buildings. Cylinders having water capacities greater than 2.7 lb. [nminal 1 lb. LP-gas capacity] shall nt be lcated n decks r balcnies f dwellings f tw r mre living units abve the first flr. Ntes: Typical cnsumer LP-Gas barbecue cylinders are 47.7 lb. water capacity [nminal 20 lb. LP-Gas capacity]. Typical LP-Gas camp stve r lantern canisters are 2.7 lb. water capacity [nminal 1 lb. LP-gas capacity].
