5 General Infrmatin The Marathn 350 carpet sil extractin machine is designed fr the efficient cleaning f carpets and uphlstery. It has been designed fr the prfessinal user t ensure lng service life and safe peratin. We recmmend that any user nt familiar with carpet cleaning shuld read these instructins fully befre using the machine. Please cntact Trnad Industries fr questins n the cntact details prvided at the back. This machine must nly be used fr the manufacturer s apprved applicatin. The Marathn 350 is designed fr the cleaning and remval f nrmal carpet sil. D nt use the machine where it is suspected that the carpet r uphlstery cntains health endangering dust r debris such as asbests r chemical waste. If this is suspected, d nt prceed. Cntact yur supervisr r Trnad Industries fr advice. The fllwing instructins cntain imprtant infrmatin abut the machine and safety advice f the peratr. Equipment must be perated, serviced and maintained in accrdance with the manufacturer s instructins. If in dubt, cntact the supplier f yur machine. Imprtant Safety Advice When using electrical equipment basic safety precautins shuld be fllwed including the fllwing. Read all instructins carefully befre use. Keep children and unauthrized persns away frm the machine when in use. D nt leave the machine cnnected t the electricity supply when nt in use; always remve the plug frm the scket-utlet. Switch ff the machine befre remving the plug When unplugging, pull the plug and nt the supply crd. D nt perate switches r tuch the main plug with wet hands as this may cause electric shck. D nt perate the machine with a damaged supply crd r plug, r after the machine malfunctins r is damaged in any way. Cntact an authrized Service Agent fr repair r adjustment. The plug f the pwer supply crd must be remved frm the scket-utlet befre cmmencing cleaning f the machine r undertaking maintenance peratins. The pwer supply crd must be regularly inspected fr signs f damage. If the pwer supply crd is damaged, it must be replaced. D nt use where hazardus dust is present. D nt use in an explsive atmsphere. D nt pick up il r ther flammable material with the machine. Take care when using the machine near the tp f stairs. Guidelines fr The Operatr Operatrs must be fully trained in the use f the machine in accrdance with these instructins, able t perfrm user maintenance and the crrect selectin f accessries. Operatrs shuld be physically capable t maneuver, transprt and perate the machine. Operatrs shuld be able t recgnize unusual peratin f the machine and reprt any prblems. Wear suitable ftwear t avid slipping. Wear suitable clthing t keep dry and warm. Where pssible, implement jb rtatin and adequate rest perids t avid cntinuus use f the same muscles. D nt leave the machine running unattended. D nt allw children t crawl n carpets until it is thrughly dry. Keep cleaning slutins away frm children and pets at all times. D nt smke when using the machine. Cautin This machine is fr indr use nly and shuld nt be used r stred utdrs r in wet cnditins. Warning Shuld water emit frm the machine exhaust, switch ff immediately and refer t instructins fr Using the Machine. 5

6 Transprting the Machine When transprting the machine ensure that all cmpnents, tanks and remvable parts are securely fastened, and that the supply crd and plug are nt trailing. Detach hse and wand frm machine fr ease f carriage. D nt lift r transprt the machine when it cntains liquid, as it will add cnsiderable weight. Take extreme care when mving the machine up and dwn the stairs. Cautin Incrrect lifting techniques may result in persnal injury. We advice that the manual handling regulatins are fllwed. Electrical Cnnectin Befre cnnecting the machine t the pwer supply, check that yur supply vltage crrespnds with that marked n the rating label n the rear f the machine. IMPORTANT If the supply crd is damaged, it must nly be replaced by a special crd available frm the manufacturer r an authrized service agent. Shuld an extensin crd be used, ensure crd rating is adequate fr the equipment. D nt use extensin crd in ciled cnditin as this culd result in verheating f the crd. Cntrls 1. Hse release catch 2. 7 Preparing fr Use Make sure bth tanks are clean befre use. Cnnect the flexible vacuum hse nt the vacuum hse inlet and the high-pressure spray hse nt the slutin utlet. (fig. 1) Cnnect the vacuum hse and the high-pressure spray hse t the carpet cleaning wand r the uphlstery tl. Fill the clean water tank with detergent and water. Use the crrect dilutin rate fr the detergent. Never ver fill. Fill the anti-fam tank with an apprpriate de-famer slutin. Imprtant Always use lw faming carpet cleaning chemicals. If using faming carpet cleaning chemical, r if fam develps due t residues in the carpet, ensure that an apprpriate de-famer is used in the anti-fam tank. Incrrect chemicals culd cause damage t the carpets being cleaned r cause the machine t malfunctin. Operatin Starting the Machine Cnnect the cable t main pwer. Ensure the slider n tp f the trigger unit is in the clsed psitin Switch n the unit spray and/r vacuum. Squeeze the trigger t spray slutin nt the carpet/uphlstery. Maintain a cnstant pressure f the wand/tl nt the surface t be cleaned. (fig. 2) Using the Machine T dry the surface being cleaned, cmplete the cleaning with a secnd pass with the vacuum (and n spray). Never sak the textile being cleaned while spraying. Cleaning Carpet Clr Fastness Befre using cleaning slutin r pre-sptter, test carpet fr clr fastness n an incnspicuus area. Apply slutin t a small piece f clean white material r tissue, and then rub n carpet vigrusly. Excessive amunts f dye shwing n the material indicate that the clr is nt fast, and the carpet shuld nt be wet cleaned. Mve furniture arund t give a clear wrking area. Cver bttms f furniture legs where necessary (aluminum cking fil is ideal). Pin up curtains and drapes. Vacuum carpet thrughly t remve any residual dust r debris. Areas f heavy carpet siling can be remved mre easily if first treated with a cncentrated cleaning slutin r pre-sptting slutin. Rate f cleaning will depend upn the thickness f the carpet and the degree f dirt in the area being cleaned. D nt clean any mre than twice. Carpets may shrink if they are ver-wet r nt prperly fixed dwn. Cleaning Stairs CAUTION When cleaning n stairs take great care t ensure that machine is stable, therwise it may cause injury t either the peratr r a third party. Use the stair/uphlstery tl fr cleaning in place f the wand assembly. 7

8 Cleaning Uphlstery This is dne in the same way as carpet cleaning except using the uphlstery tl in place f the wand assembly. Cleaning is achieved using a gentle dragging mtin f the uphlstery tl ver the material. An incnspicuus area f the item t be cleaned shuld always be tested fr clr fastness prir t cleaning. Shuld dubt exist as t the suitability f the fabric fr wet cleaning, the chemical manufacturer shuld be cnsulted fr advice. Lse cushins shuld be remved and cleaned separately. Care shuld be taken t avid ver-wetting the fabric. When Cleaning is Finished Draining and Cleaning Befre remving the spray hse, pressure in the system must be released. With the pump switched ff, hld the spray nzzle ver the remvable recvery tank and squeeze the spray trigger until the remaining slutin has been released. The spray hse can nw be discnnected. After use, check that bth slutin tanks are empty. Empty the slutin tank and rinse. Empty the recvery tank and rinse clean. Rinse bth tanks ut with clean water befre string the machine. Clean nzzles and hses. Strage Always unplug, empty, wipe dwn and dry the machine after use. Wrap supply crd arund the handle f the machine ensuring that the plug is nt trailing n the flr. Stre the machine in a dry indr area nly. Maintenance WARNING Befre undertaking maintenance peratins r adjustments, switch ff machine and unplug frm the electricity supply. The machine requires minimum maintenance apart frm the fllwing checks by the peratr. Supply crd Regularly inspect sheath, plug and crd anchrage fr damage r lse cnnectin. Slutin tank Check filters are clean and undamaged. A damaged r missing filter must be replaced r damage t pump head and spray jet may ccur. Vacuum filter Check the vacuum filter is cleaned and replaced as apprpriate. Vacuum head Check and remve and debris r lint build-up frm the head. Spray jet Check jet fr blckage and full spray pattern. Blw thrugh jet t clean. D nt use a pin, as this culd damage the jet. IMPORTANT All ther servicing and repairs shuld nly be perfrmed by a Trnad engineer r an Authrized Service Agent. IMPORTANT Shuld the machine fail t perate please refer t the fault diagnsis sectin in the back f the instructin manual. If the prblem/remedy is nt listed, please cntact Trnad Custmer Service Department. After Sales Service Shuld yu require after sales service, please cntact the supplier frm whm yu purchased the machine, wh will arrange service. Repairs and servicing fr Trnad prducts shuld nly be perfrmed by trained staff. Imprper repairs can cause cnsiderable dangers t the user. 8
