Special instructins If yur irn des nt wrk, check the fllwing pints: Has the temperature cntrl been set t the required temperature? Is the plug in its scket? Is the plug itself r the scket faulty? (Check by plugging in anther appliance). WARNING: When nt in use, yur irn shuld never be placed flat and left n an irning bard. T prevent damage t the textile being irned, fllw the temperature guide carefully. (Test the inside f the hem f the garment). When irning is cmplete, remve the plug frm the scket, empty any remaining water frm the tank, and allw t cl befre strage. If yu drp r severely knck yur irn, this culd cause internal damage even if the utside appears alright. Have it checked by a qualified electrician. It is recmmended that yu use up ne beaker f water by perating yur irn s steam and sht f steam functins befre irning any clthes, as sme dripping may ccur while yur irn s steam system is activated. This will minimise the frequency f temperature adjustment fr different garments. Nte: The steam facility shuld nly be used n garments which are suitable fr irning at the 2 and 3-dt settings (see Temperature guide ). Textiles and clthes are suppsed t carry irning instructins. If they dn t, yu shuld fllw the Temperature/Fabric guide, but be sure t test the temperature by irning the hem f the garment r similar discreet area first. Dry irning If yu turn the cntrl dial dwn frm a ht setting t a cler setting, wait until the irn temperature has stabilised befre yu cntinue irning. Delicate fabrics such as silk, wl, velur, etc, are best irned with an irning clth t prevent shine marks. FILLING A 1 Make sure that the irn is nt plugged in, then set the steam dial t O psitin befre filling the irn with water. 2 Lift the filler cap until it lcks and hlds in the pen psitin. Fill the water thrugh the filling hle int the water tank, using the beaker prvided A. The tank hlds 350ml f water. The irn is fitted with a clear view water tank, s yu can easily see the water level when filling. During filling, tilt the irn frward t read the water level. The MAX mark is printed n the side f the clear view tank B. After filling, push the filler cap frward until it clicks in place. In hard water areas, the use f distilled r demineralised water is recmmended. Never use battery tpping up fluid r water cntaining any substances like starch, r sugar, r defrsted water frm a refrigeratr. 3 Always pur ut the remaining water after use. WARNING: When filling yur irn with tap water, always use the beaker prvided. Never fill directly under the tap. TEMPERATURE CONTROL C 1 Plug in the irn and switch n the pwer at the mains scket. 2 Set the temperature dial t the temperature required C, but dn t start irning immediately. If yu wait a few minutes, the irn will stabilise at the required setting. Yur Mrphy Richards irn is fitted with a temperature indicatr 5

This is perfectly nrmal as it shws that the irn is maintaining the heat setting yu have chsen. It is always a gd idea t begin with cl fabrics and wrk up t higher settings. An irn heats up quicker than it cls dwn s yu will save time and energy. FEATURES OF YOUR IRON Dry irning Yu can use yur irn as a dry irn nly. Make sure the variable steam cntrl is set t the O symbl. Any temperature setting may be used depending n the garment. The spray feature may be used, prvided there is water in the tank (see Filling sectin). Yu d nt need t put any water in the tank when dry irning nly. Water Spray D Press the spray buttn and aim the spray f water at stubbrn creases. Yu can d this whilst dry irning prviding there is water in the tank. When using the water spray it may be necessary t push the buttn a few times t get the spray pump primed. Variable steam Fill the irn with water as described in Filling, and insert the plug int the electrical scket. The steam utput can be varied frm lw t high by mving the variable steam cntrl. When using the irn at the bttm f the steam range, the steam utput shuld be adjusted t the lw setting. The steam facility shuld nly be used n garments which are suitable fr irning at 2, 3-dt and MAX setting. Ecnmy / Ec steam setting (certain mdels nly) E This irn prvides yu with tw specific steam levels, the first psitin is an ecnmy r Ec setting which delivers a specific amunt f steam adequate fr mst tasks. Mve the cntrl buttn acrss until it aligns with the green indicatr line. A secnd setting is available t handle difficult jbs such as stubbrn creases. The Ec r ecnmy setting can be used at the 2-3 dt and MAX temperature levels, high steam is suitable fr 3-dt and MAX levels nly. Steam bst F Press the steam bst buttn t btain a bst f extra steam fr irning ut creases in heavy material such as denim etc. The sht f steam can be used whilst dry irning, prviding there is water in the tank, and the temperature cntrl is set within the steam range. D nt use sht f steam at temperatures belw the steam range shwn n the cntrl dial. Nte: Fr ptimum steam quality, d nt perate the sht mre than three times in successin. Vertical steam Hld the irn in a vertical psitin between 1cm and 2cm away frm the item G. Press the steam bst buttn, this will create vertical steam. This feature is especially useful fr remving creases frm hanging clthes, curtains, wall hangings, etc. Nte; Fr ptimum steam quality, d nt perate the sht mre than three times in successin. N drip system Yur irn is fitted with a n drip system which is designed t prevent water escaping frm the sleplate fl when the irn is t cld. During use, the n drip system may emit a lud click, particularly during heat-up r whilst cling dwn. This is perfectly nrmal and indicates that the system is functining crrectly. Aut shut-ff (certain mdels nly) If yur irn is fitted with the aut shut-ff functin, it will autmatically shut dwn after a set perid. If the irn is left unattended in the hrizntal psitin, it will shut dwn after 1 minute. If it is left in the vertical psitin, it will shut dwn after 8 minutes. The aut shut-ff light  will flash, indicating the prduct is in shut-dwn mde. T reactivate the irn, gently shake it, the temperature indicatr light will cme n, indicating the irn is warming up. Wait fr the irn t heat-up as nrmal. Life lng anti-scale system (certain mdels nly) The life lng anti-scale system reduces scale depsits and helps prlng the life f the irn. MAINTENANCE T clean a ceramic cated sleplate (certain mdels nly) In the unlikely event f any man-made fibre fusing t the sleplate, set the irn at the MAX psitin and pass it ver a clean piece f cttn which will draw the depsit ff the surface. D nt use scuring pwder r slutin as this culd cause damage t the cating. IMPORTANT: D nt descale the sleplate with descaling prducts, prprietary cleaning agents r vinegar when flushing ut the sleplate. T clean a stainless steel sleplate (certain mdels nly) T keep the sleplate f yur irn clean and free f limescale, we recmmend that yu use ne f the gentle chrme, silver r stainless steel cleaners that are generally available. Always fllw the manufacturer s instructins. 6

T clean the exterir Allw the irn t cl and wipe ver with a damp clth and mild detergent, then wipe with a dry clth. Emptying and string When yu have finished irning, unplug yur irn. Ensure that the variable steam cntrl is set at the O psitin, lift up the filler cap and empty any remaining water ut f the filling hle H. D nt stre in the bx, but in an upright psitin, s that any drps f water remaining cannt leak ut and disclur the sleplate. Imprtant: The flex can be damaged if wund t tightly arund the irn after use. Make a lse lp with the flex and wrap it arund the irn. The irn must be cl befre winding the flex and string n its heel I. Use the plastic clip prvided t secure the cable t the irn.
