6 RECAP OF NOVEMBER 2016 PUBLIC MEETINGS Held 13 Public Meetings between Nvember 7 and Nvember 29, 2016 at multiple municipalities acrss the GTHA Electrificatin-Related Feedback: G abve and beynd minimum nise and vibratin mitigatin requirements Practively cmmunicate with cmmunities n all aspects f the prjects Create cnditins fr replacement trees t thrive Include diverse and native species in replacement trees Ensure nise, vibratin, and tree remval cmpensatin is lcally applied Be pen t alternative types f technlgy fr trains n the rail crridr (undertaking a feasibility reprt n hydrail) Feedback Received Nt Related t Electrificatin: Separate at-grade crssings Cnsider the impacts that prviding additinal lcal service will have n the reginal service Integrate GO Service with lcal transit service Ensure the service remains affrdable t all wh use it Review and revise utdated plicy and strengthen the prcurement prcess Summary reprts fr each public meeting are available at 6

7 ELECTRIFICATION - VEGETATION REMOVALS Vegetatin remval is required within a maximum 7m zne f the utermst electrified track Minimize the risk f tree limbs falling n the track r verhead wires Secure the safety f maintenance wrkers when wrking in an electrified envirnment Maintain the safety f ur custmers and neighburs 7

8 VEGETATION APPROACH PRIVATE PROPERTY Metrlinx will seek design slutins t minimize tree remval n private prperty In the case where a safety risk cannt be avided, then Metrlinx will cnsult with land wner and seek municipal tree remval permit Trees will be cmpensated as per Municipal requirements 8

9 VEGETATION APPROACH METROLINX PROPERTY Technically, Metrlinx can remve trees within Metrlinx prperty withut permits r cmpensatin Metrlinx is develping a methdlgy t cmpensate fr trees remved n Metrlinx s prperty Metrlinx will partner with Cnservatin Authrities and municipalities t develp the final cmpensatin strategy. 9

10 VISUAL EFFECTS & MITIGATION OCS Rail Crridrs: The installatin f OCS infrastructure will affect the viewshed alng the rail crridr, particularly in areas f vegetatin/tree clearing Mitigatin Measures Areas f high visual impact will be identified and specific design measures will be incrprated t mitigate visual impacts These strategies will address the range f visual cnditins, area allcatins, and mitigatin needs that will be fund alng the crridr Rendering f OCS alng Lakeshre East Crridr Prt Unin Village Cmmn Park OCS GO Statins: The installatin f OCS infrastructure will affect the views at GO Statins, particularly in areas f vegetatin/tree clearing Mitigatin Measures A Design Excellence prcess will be fllwed t integrate the OCS design int GO Statins t reduce the extent f visual impacts OCS at statins example Salzburg, Austria 10

11 VISUAL EFFECTS & MITIGATION Bridge Barriers: All verhead and pedestrian bridges will require bridge barriers fr safety, which may affect views acrss the bridge Mitigatin Measures Metrlinx is develping an apprach fr the design f the bridge barriers t visually enhance their appearance Will review ptins fr enhancing aesthetics f bridge barriers in cnsultatin with interested/affected municipalities as apprpriate Bridge barrier example frm New Zealand 11

12 BRIDGE BARRIER DESIGN Metrlinx develped prfiles fr each rad ver rail bridge, and categrized them based n: Surrunding land use and cmmunity character Autmbile and pedestrian traffic levels Adjacent built frm (current and prpsed) A Design Excellence prcess will review ptins fr design treatments/ptins fr enhancing the aesthetics f bridge barriers: Bespke (heritage bridges) Sensitive cmmunity areas and high traffic bridges Bridges in mixed use areas Bridges ver highway and in industrial znes Fully enclsed bridges (mitted) 12

14 VISUAL EFFECTS & MITIGATION Tractin Pwer Facilities (TPFs): Many TPFs have minimal t n impact n visual landscape as they are lcated in industrial areas Sme TPFs will require vegetatin clearing Mitigatin Measures Landscaping and/r screening may be cnsidered arund the TPF s lcated in residential/sensitive areas.
