PURPOSE T update the Bard n the upcming 2013 service adjustments required t supprt achieving a state f gd repair. DESCRIPTION Key Highlights: Metr has undertaken an aggressive rebuilding prgram that expends capital funds t ensure a safer system and prvide: Imprved service reliability Rehabilitated track system infrastructure Smther ride quality Cntinued cmpletin f Natinal Transprtatin Safety Bard (NTSB) recmmendatins BACKGROUND AND HISTORY In 2011, Metr mved frward t rebuild the regin s transit system investing $5 billin ver the next six years t prduce a better service fr custmers, made pssible thrugh funding supprt frm the District f Clumbia, Maryland, Virginia and the Federal gvernment. The $5 billin investment cvers ver a 100 prjects including: New generatin f rail cars t replace the ldest cars Replacement f 60 miles f rail ver the next six years Page 58 f 78

3 This majr investment is already shwing results in the frm f imprved reliability n Metrrail and imprved safety. Last May Metr cmpleted the installatin f the Guarded N. 8 switches thrughut the system, ne f the NTSB recmmendatins. DISCUSSION The Fiscal 2013 Capital Budget cntinues t accelerate effrts t rebuild Metr, with nearly a billin dllars ($997M) in investment. Over the next three mnths Metr has scheduled 43 single tracking/11 shutdwns t accmplish: Rehabilitatin f statin platfrms Rehabilitatin f 3 rd rail Repair/replacement f insulatrs, fasteners, ties and turnuts Operatinal testing fr the Silver Line Installatin f Neutral Hst cable Replacement f track circuits Rail welding Replacement f track Replacement f #10 turnuts Repair f tunnel leaks Radi remediatin Greenbelt test track A chrnlgical listing f upcming single tracking utages and shutdwns is prvided in the attached Appendix. Outages have been planned t cmplete the prject wrk in the shrtest time while minimizing custmer impact. This is accmplished by multiple prjects wrking in parallel during utages. Further review f required maintenance and infrastructure wrk is nging t assess the need fr additinal utages.
