VEHICLE DEPOSIT SYSTEM VEHICLES DRIVING DOWN TO THE MARQUEE ON SATURDAY MORNING WILL BE CHARGED A DEPOSIT OF 20. THIS IS REFUNDABLE PROVIDING THE VEHICLE IS REMOVED TO THE UPPER CAR PARK BEFORE 10.00AM. PLEASE HAVE YOUR 20 READY TO AVOID UNNECESSARY HOLDUPS AT THE GATE. RULES All exhibits must be the property of the exhibitor and, with the exception of classes 401 onwards, must have been grown on his/her property. All entries should be written on one side of the Entry Form, complete with address and contact number and entry fees should be shown. All plates, vases, stands, etc must be provided by the exhibitor. Jam jars, milk bottles, tin cans, etc. MUST NOT BE USED FOR FLOWERS. All exhibits must not have won a prize at Newport Show before. Dirt, unnecessary leaves etc. must be removed from vegetables. Handicraft items must be clean. All exhibits to be staged by 8.00 am prompt. No exhibitor cards will be issued after 7.45 am. The marquee will be cleared for judging at 8.15 am. The marquee will be open for staging from 6pm till 10pm on the evening before the Show and from 6.00 am till 8.00 am on the morning of the Show. All exhibitors to be in the marquee at 4.45 pm for presentation of trophies. EXHIBITS MAY BE REMOVED AFTER PRIZEGIVING. NO VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED ON TO THE SHOWGROUND BEFORE 5.30p.m.FOR COLLECTION OF EXHIBITS. All exhibits, personal property, etc. shall be at the risk of the exhibitors and the Society shall not be liable for compensation for loss or damage from any cause whatsoever should the Show for any reason not be held, no exhibitor shall have any claim on the Society. Exhibitors shall be issued with an exhibitor card corresponding to each of their exhibits and this must be placed with each exhibit. Failure to do so may lead to disqualification of the exhibit. EXHIBITORS ARE TO MAKE SURE THAT EXHIBITS ARE IN THE CORRECT CLASS WITH CORRECT CARDS. 3
6 Objections by exhibitors must be lodged, in writing, to the Secretary by 2.00 pm on Show day with a deposit of 50p for each objection. If the Committee, whose decision is final, does not uphold the objection the exhibitor shall forfeit his/her deposit. NO EXHIBITOR WILL BE ALLOWED MORE THAN ONE ENTRY IN ANY ONE CLASS. The Judges may disallow any prize if they consider an exhibit to be of insuffcient standard. They may also award an extra prize for High Standard of Merit. THE JUDGE S DECISION WILL BE AT ALL TIMES FINAL. Where the Judges award prizes of equal merit, the exhibitors are to understand that such prize money will be added together and divided equally. Cup awards, if equal, shall be held for six months each. All prize money etc. will be given out from the Secretary s table in the marquee from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm. DEFINITIONS -The words kind and variety are used in this Schedule in the following sense: Sweet Peas, Roses, Carnations are kinds. Superstars, Peace, Doctor are varieties of Rose. Royal Wedding, Midnight, The Doctor are varieties of Sweet Peas. FLORAL ART CLASSES An exhibit is composed of natural plant material, with or without accessories, contained within a space as specified in a show schedule. NAFAS Rules state that disqualification will take place for the following reasons: Failure to comply with any specific requirements of a class as stated in a show schedule, e.g. the measurements or the components. Inclusion of artificial plant material, (unless specifically allowed by the show schedule) Inclusion of any fresh material that does not have its roots or the cut ends of stems in water or water-retaining material. 11
14 Exceptions: Air plants, cacti, fruits, grass turf, lichen, moss, succulents, vegetables and long-lasting plant material WHICH WILL REMAIN TURGID FOR THE DURATION OF THE SHOW. (Definition of turgid the state of firmness of plant tissue resulting from adequate moisture, causing the plant cells to be fully expanded). For further details and definitions please refer to the NAFAS Competitions Manual, Second Edition 2009, in accordance with which, all classes will be judged. EDWARDIAN BIRTHDAY CAKE 100g butter; 100g moist brown sugar; 35g golden syrup; 2 large eggs; 175g plain flour; Pinch of salt; 1 level tsp baking powder; 1 level tsp mixed spice; 100g currants; 125g sultanas; 50g glace cherries; 50g marmalade; A little milk if necessary; Tin 7 round. METHOD FOR EDWARDIAN BIRTHDAY CAKE Proceed as for creaming method but include the syrup when creaming the butter and sugar. Beat in the marmalade before beginning to add eggs, flour and fruit. Consistency of the mixture should be fairly soft. Bake for 30 min at 160C (electric fan), gas mark 4. Then hrs at 130C (electric fan), gas mark 2. 15
