The Chapel Hill Polie ontinue to have nonexlusive use of parking adjaent to their leased building. Current status of transit planning for Carolina North Projet and oordination within Short Range Transit Plan proess: The Town and the University ontinue to work on several transit planning efforts that will impat aess to Carolina North. The Orange County Bus and Rail Investment Plan, funded in part by a half-ent sales tax approved by Orange County voters, supports development of light rail transit between Orange and Durham ounties, Page 1 of 17
3 as well as other transit system enhanements throughout the County and Chapel Hill. The Chapel Hill Transit Partners have agreed upon the use of portions of the inreased funding reeived by Chapel Hill Transit, inluding additional servies have been implemented sine August The North-South Corridor Study is an alternatives analysis of bus rapid transit options along Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The transit improvements being analyzed, if funded, would serve Carolina North. A loally preferred alternative was seleted by the Chapel Hill Town Counil on April 27, 2016, and steps are being taken to advane the projet to the next level of study. Coordination with Transportation Management Plan: Transportation Management Plan oordination was not required beause the University had no development during the reporting period. Misellaneous: In November 2015, the University renovated the Field Operations Building loated in the former Town failities area for an interim use by the UNC Housekeeping Department. This work inluded the replaement of an existing modular unit adjaent to the Field Operations Building with a leased modular unit in April In addition, the University replaed a seond existing modular unit within the former Town failities area with a leased modular unit in Deember This leased unit is providing an interim loation for the dayare portion of the UNC Medial Shool affiliated UNC Horizons Program. Report on onsideration of pedestrian onnetions to adjaent neighborhoods: No ativity to report during this period. F. Waste Management The University urrently provides trash and reyling servies for all Universityowned buildings, inluding buildings at Carolina North, and a number of leased properties. The reyling program overs a variety of materials and is ontinually evaluated for improvement and expansion. A representative from the University Offie of Waste Redution and Reyling is involved in projet reviews and helps identify waste redution, reuse, and reyling opportunities. Speifiations detailing University and regulatory requirements regarding onstrution waste management and reporting are to be inluded in eah projet manual. Projet teams eduate ontrators about University, loal, state and projet-speifi requirements; review and suggest hanges to ontrators Solid Waste Page 8 of 17
10 Management Plans; and ollet waste reports from partiipating projets. Future onstrution projets and finished buildings will be managed and supported similarly. No fisal impats on the Town have been noted and waste management strategies have not been amended. G. Rereation Areas Study of feasibility and ost-sharing options for future joint-use rereation areas at Carolina North: No ativity to report for this period. Desription of improvements for rereation areas and doument ompliane with : No new rereational failities or rereational areas were developed on the Carolina North property during the fisal year. The use of the Carolina North property for rereational purposes ontinues to thrive as residents of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and surrounding ommunities, make frequent and extensive use of the University s network of trails on the Carolina North property. Over 25 miles of trails are woven through the Carolina North Forest. The University, through its Forest Management Offie Staff, failitates ooperative use of the network of trails in the Carolina North Forest for the benefit of loal shools, ommunity organizations, and individual residents of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and the broader ommunity. 11 I. Tree Canopy The University is ommitted to proative management of the Carolina North Forest and strives to maintain or inrease the overall tree anopy of the trat. In the last year, anopy maintenane ativities again foused on the removal of exoti, non-native, invasive or otherwise undesirable speies to promote natural growth of the native anopy. As onstrution projets are planned, staff will assess the potential impats on tree anopy with the objetive of offsetting any loss in anopy. II Development Shedule The renovated Field Operations Building and replaed modular units for UNC Housekeeping and UNC Horizons Child Development Center, respetively, are expeted to remain at Carolina North through alendar year The University will ontinue to use the Field Operations Building to address appropriate ampus spae needs after UNC Housekeeping moves to their permanent loation. Furthermore, the University will reexamine whether these needs require the ontinued use of the modular building urrently used by UNC Housekeeping on an annual basis. The University is working with Orange County, Town of Chapel Hill and NCDOT on an Orange County initiated projet to extend the sidewalk along Homestead Road between the Southern Orange County Government Human Servies Center and the University of North Carolina Property. As part of the Town of Chapel Hill sidewalk plan, the new onrete sidewalk will extend approximately 500 to onnet the existing rosswalk at Weaver Dairy Extension to the existing sidewalk loated east of the Projet Homestart Page 10 of 17
12 driveway at 2505 Homestead Rd. The University is funding the portion of sidewalk that rosses University property. Constrution is antiipated to start in September 2016 with an expeted ompletion of November A.
