13 System Overview 1st flashing phase (after about 10 s): The devie hanges from olourtemperature mode to olourswitch mode 2nd flashing phase (after about 15 s): The devie hanges from olourswitch mode to olourtemperature mode I NOTICE If the pushbutton is released more than 5 seonds after the 2nd flashing phase this annot be assigned to either flashing phase and will be ignored. This an be used to avoid inorret entries. If the right time for releasing the pushbutton has passed all you need to do is to allow the appropriate time to elapse and start the proess again. Changing predefined olour temperatures and dimming levels The predefined olour temperatures and dimming levels in olourtemperature mode and olourswitch mode an be hanged via the MasterConfigurator. Any x and y values within the two limit values of 2700 K and 6500 K an be seleted for the olour temperature. Either a olour value along the Plankian urve an be seleted or x and y values an be entered diretly. Up to 16 senes an be individually defined. These senes are stored in the LED ontrol gear. They an then be realled via DALI and swithdim. A DALI environment is needed for the onfiguration (power supply, DALI USB). For more information on the proedure see the masterconfigurator handbook. Setting the dimming level The dimming level is set with the other of the two pushbuttons. The proedures for the olourtemperature mode and the olourswitch mode are idential: Press the pushbutton briefly (approx. 1 s) to swith the LED ontrol gear on or off The last values set for the olour temperature and the dimming level will be realled when the LED ontrol gear is swithed on again Hold down the pushbutton (> 1 s) to hange the dimming level I NOTICE The dimming diretion (fade diretion) hanges automatially with eah dimming operation. Synhronising the dimming level Synhronising involves setting all the onneted light modules to a uniform dimming level and a uniform dimming diretion. 14 System Overview Loal ontrol via the LMAI Control via a push potentiometer or a floating pushbutton (make ontat) is ahieved by onneting these devies to the LMAI. I NOTICE A mains reset is needed if a new ontrol element is onneted so that this new ontrol element an be orretly deteted. Control via push potentiometer I NOTICE High-resistane potentiometers may give results that are not aurate enough. Tridoni reommends low-resistane potentiometers. The potentiometer must have the following harateristis: max. resistane 10 kohm linear harateristi urve series resistane of 680 Ohm There are two possible operating modes for ontrol via a push potentiometer: Stepless setting for the olour temperature between 2,700 K and 6,500 K. Stepless setting for the dimming level between 15 % and 100%. The potentiometer has two stop points: The full-left setting orresponds to the minimum values (a olour temperature of 2700 K and a dimming level of 15%) the full-right setting orresponds to the maximum values (6500 K and 100%). On start-up the devie first ativates light intensity setting. The settings an be saved using two different methods: with a short keystroke with Automati Saving (if no hanges are made settings are automatially saved after 5 minutes) Tehnial Design-in Guide TALEXXengine STARK SLE PREMIUM en 14 / 58

27 Mehanial Aspets Chemial ompatibility LED modules an be damaged by other materials, if these materials have ertain hemial properties. The ause for these damages are different gaseous ompounds, whih penetrate into the enapsulant of the LED and thereby attak the enapsulant, the olor onversion phosphor or the LED hips and an affet the eletrial ontats or the substrate. Appliation areas for hemial substanes The following are known areas in whih hemial substanes are used: use of protetive oating in appliations with high relative humidity (outdoor appliations), enapsulation of LED modules, ementing of LED modules, sealing of luminaires. The following materials must be heked for their safety: All omponents and auxiliaries used in the assembly of the luminaire:» Solvents of adhesives and oatings» Other so-alled VOC ("volatile organi ompounds") All other additional substanes present in the atmosphere:» Outgassing of adhesives, sealants and oatings» Cleaning agents and proessing aids (e.g. utting oils and drilling oolants) I HINWEIS Contat your LED manufaturer for questions about the materials used and possible interations and risks. Putting together a "safe list" is not possible due to the omplexity of the topi. These give rise to reagents (e.g. solvent vapors, aeti aid) that may damage LED modules or the enapsulant. This applies to hemials that are used not in the immediate viinity of the modules (e.g. seals) and also to hemials that ome into diret ontat with the modules (e.g. insulating oatings, adhesives). To asertain the hemials used and the type of ross linking a tehnial data sheet ontaining a list of substanes must be requested from the manufaturer. 29 Mehanial Aspets Protetion measures in regards to sealing The points above also apply to hemials used for sealing luminaire asings. If however the LED module is not installed in the luminaire until after the sealing ompound has been ompletely ured (see relevant material information) the above points an be ignored. If the LED modules have already been installed in the luminaire, possible damage to the enapsulant an be redued to a minimum by ensuring adequate spaing (>10 m) and ventilation (open asing and air irulation, extration / fan) during the uring proess. Protetion measures in regards to ementing To avoid damaging the LED modules you must not use any tools or exert any pressure on the eletroni omponents or the enapsulant. If glass or Plexiglas shields are used make sure that pressure is not exerted on the enapsulant. Only touh the LED modules at the edges Instrutions for ementing TALEXX modules Preparation Clean and durable bonding of two materials requires speial attention. 30 Mehanial Aspets Important aspets Carrier material The arrier material must have adequate thermal ondutivity (e.g. aluminium). The size of the ooling surfae depends on the power of the LEDs, among other things. For information on the ooling surfae required, see the appropriate produt data sheet. Adhesive material The arrier material itself plays an important role in seleting the adhesive material. The ruial fators are the oeffiient of expansion and ompatibility with the base material of the TALEXX module board (plasti or aluminium). This must be heked in the appliation in terms of long-term stability, surfae ontamination and mehanial properties. Surfae quality The arrier material must be unoated (thermal transport, adhesion) and level at the onnetion points. Installation temperature To ahieve optimum adhesion we reommend you arry out this work at room temperature. Duration, optimum adhesive strengths Maximum adhesion is ahieved within 48 hours at room temperature; the proess is aelerated by heat. In atual pratie this means that at the maximum t temperature (approx C, produt-speifi) maximum adhesion is reahed after about 12 hours. During the uring period make sure that there is no tensile load on the adhesive onnetion of the TALEXX module. Additional information TALEXX modules must not be stuk and restuk time and again without replaing the adhesive tape. Damaged adhesive tapes must be ompletely removed and replaed by new tapes. Pakaging and transport TALEXX produts from Tridoni are delivered in appropriate pakaging. The pakaging provides speial protetion against mehanial damage and ESD (eletrostati disharge). If you need to transport TALEXX produts you should use this pakaging. Installing the modules The modules are mounted on a heat sink with 2 bolts per module. In order not to damage the modules only raised head bolts should be used. The bolts should be seleted on the basis of the following dimensions: Tehnial Design-in Guide TALEXXengine STARK SLE PREMIUM en 30 / 58

Refletor design and beam harateristis Refletor design The mehanial and optial properties of the modules of the TALEXXengine STARK SLE PREMIUM system offer the best onditions for using refletors. The overall effiieny of the system an be optimised by hoosing a refletor that direts the light appropriately. The optial properties (e.g. beam angle) and the dimensions of the refletor play a ruial role. The overall height of the luminaire an be redued by seleting a low-profile refletor, depending on the beam angle required. This may improve the thermal output of the luminaire by inreasing the height available for the heat sink. To ahieve uniform illumination a refletor withy an integrated diffuser is reommended for LED modules with multiolour LEDs. This ensures that the olours are properly mixed. Some refletors have the option of faeting for the refletor wall. Depending on the position of the homogenising element, different effiienies and different olour mixing results an be ahieved. 46 Thermal Aspets Thermal aspets Module ooling Effet of ooling on the life of the modules The modules of thetalexxengine STARK SLE PREMIUM system have been designed to operate with a passive or ative heat sink and an be mounted diretly on suh a suitable heat sink. The life of the module depends to a large extent on the operating temperature. The more that the operating temperature an be redued by ooling, the longer the expeted life of the module. If the permitted operating temperature is exeeded, however, the life of the module will be signifiantly redued. Lifetime harateristi The diagram shows the hange in luminous flux in perent over an operating time of 1,000 h at different t operating temperatures. Luminous flux Operating time at t = 65 C 80 % 32,000 h 70 % 50,000 h 50 % 91,000 h I NOTICE Please hek the information on the operating temperature and the requirements for ooling in the module data sheets. 47 Thermal Aspets Requirements for the heat sink Although the operating temperature of the modules is ontinually monitored during operation and the power is automatially redued in the event of exess temperature, the modules should not be operated without a heat sink. The heat sinks must be dimensioned to provide adequate ooling apaity. The R th value is important for seleting an appropriate heat sink. This value depends on the light output of the module and on the ambient temperature in whih the module is to be operated. The Rth value of the heat sink must be smaller than the required R th value. I NOTICE Please hek the information on heat sinks in the module data sheets. Passive and ative ooling Passive ooling Passive ooling module Example of passive ooling for the module Heat transfer from a heat soure to the surrounding ooling medium (e.g. air) depends primarily on the differene in temperature, the effetive surfae area and the flow rate of the ooling medium. The funtion of a heat sink is to inrease the surfae area over whih the heat an be dissipated. This lowers the thermal resistane. A passive heat sink works mainly by onvetion. The surrounding air is heated, whih makes it rise, and is replaed by ooler air. Heat pipes an be used as an alternative to ooing with fans. If spae is partiularly tight, the heat is first onveyed away. The atual heat sink is loated at the other end of the heat pipe. Tehnial Design-in Guide TALEXXengine STARK SLE PREMIUM en 47 / 58

48 Thermal Aspets Benefits of passive ooling Energy savings Silent No mehanial wear No maintenane Ative ooling Round ative ooling module round Square ative ooling module Example of ative ooling for the module An ative heat sink onsists of the heat sink itself and an eletrially powered fan. The fan dissipates heat from the heat sink by blowing a suffiient quantity of air along the surfae of the heat sink. To redue the power draw and noise, the fan speed an be ontrolled from the ative ooling system on the basis of temperature. The fan speed is not ontrolled from the TALEXXengine STARK system. A diaphragm an be used as an alternative to fans to produe ative air movements. Ative heat sinks with fan ooling ahieve around six times the performane of passive heat sinks for the same amount of material used. Ative heat sinks an therefore be made very ompat.
