3 ontents Lead Free PV Sustainabe Materias Terrain Drainage Products are 100% Lead Free. Pastics are among the most researched materias in the word and rapid technoogica and manufacturing deveopments made in recent years have aowed for continuous innovation. Terrain pioneered the deveopment of PV materia for the manufacturing of drainage pipes and fittings; we remain at the forefront of the industry across the gobe and are proud to be pioneering the industry once more with the deveopment of our LED-FREE systems to minimise the environmenta and heath risk impacts of the PV ife cyce. Utiising a ead-free materia composition contributes significanty to an environmentay friendy manufacturing process and gives a finished product that is fuy recycabe in accordance with Internationa Standards. 35 Fixing & onnections Fixing centres and expansion points Therma movement When fixing gutter, aowance must be made for therma movement and a Terrain outets, anges and joint brackets are engraved with the appropriate expansion gaps. It is important that the gutter is correcty fitted into these fittings taking due care to pace the cut end of the gutter on the ine marked. It is important that the expansion gaps are maintained when gutter is fitted and must not be spaced to exceed 4 metres/13ft centres. In the case of dry jointing downpipe each fitting cip has a sight hoe provided on the front of it. ( , and the 82mm and 110mm fitting cips do not have sight hoes.) The purpose of the sight hoes is to aow sight of the top of the pipe being fitted from beow. When this pipe end obscures haf of the aperture you have the correct expansion gap. 36 System Panning Design principes Sizing of rainwater instaations There is an approved S EN method for the cacuation of roof fow oad, and the foowing genera guideines and assumptions on sizing of rainwater instaations are based on this. For detaied guidance on a particuar project, pease refer to S EN :2000 Gravity Drainage Systems Inside uidings Roof Drainage, Layout and acuations, or contact Terrain Technica Services on Rainfa In the UK, it is generay satisfactory for eaves gutters to be designed for a rainfa intensity of 75mm/hr. The predicted frequency of storms producing intensities of 75mm/hr is ow, with just one 2 minute duration fa of such intensity anticipated each year. good factor of safety is therefore buit into any design using these vaues. However, when designing for cosed areas such as ightwes, fat roofs or simiar the rainfa intensity vaue aowed for shoud be increased. gain, pease refer to S EN :2000. Snow The foowing shoud be taken into account when designing guttering systems when snow oads are common or ikey. ritish Standards S EN :2000 Section N4 states: Gutter designed for rainfa wi have adequate fow capacity for the remova of meting snow. However, gutters and outets can become bocked by frozen snow but this can be avoided by the use of trace heating or snow boards. Snow guards may be fitted to the eaves of a pitched roof where siding snow may cause injury to peope or damage to structures beow. Depending upon what is at risk, snow guards can be necessary for roof pitches up to 60 o from the horizonta and they need not be higher than 300mm for most situations. The fixings shoud be strong enough to withstand the forces cacuated in accordance with S Section states: In areas where snow ies on roofs, the front edge of the gutter shoud not be higher than the projected ine of the roof, uness snow guards or other precautions are used. Terrain recommends that in designs where snow is ikey, the gutter support brackets shoud be fixed at maximum of 800mm centres. In areas of high risk of snow Terrain recommends the use of snow guards or other protection. Roof Fow Load: How to cacuate it There are two factors to consider when cacuating fow. Firsty the area to be drained, or effective roof area ; and the intensity of rainfa. For the intensity of rainfa you shoud assume 75mm/hr except for encosed areas such as ightwes and fat roofs. Effective Roof rea Effective Roof rea can be cacuated using the foowing formua, as iustrated in Fig.5. ER(m2) =(W + H/2) x L (Fig.5) KEY: ER = Effective Roof rea (square metres) W = horizonta distance from eaves to point directy beow ridge H = vertica rise between eaves and ridge (metres) L = gutter ength (metres) acuating the actua fow Once you have cacuated the ER, for 75mm/hr rainfa intensity FLOW (itres/second) = ER (m2) x For other rainfa intensities FLOW = ER (m2) x rainfa intensity (mm/hr)/3600 = itres/second Fig. 5 H 90 o W L Wind There is no requirement to aow for the effect of wind when designing a rainwater system for fat roofs or roofs protected from the wind by adjacent buidings. However, the wind and the roof sope can have the effect of increasing the roof fow oad for unprotected pitched roofs. This is aowed for in the S EN :2000 cacuation method by adding haf the rise to the roof span. 36 dimensions in mm uness otherwise stated

In case of mechanica handing, avoid the use of chains and hooks. On site storage Stack pipe engths: either on a fat base or on eve ground or on 75mm x 75mm timber at 1m maximum centres. Provide side support with 75mm wide battens at 1m centres (see Fig.6). Maximum stack: seven ayers high. Ideay, stacks shoud contain one diameter pipe size ony. Where this is not possibe, stack argest diameter pipes at base of stack. Sma pipes may be nested inside arger pipes. If stored in the open for ong periods or exposed to strong sunight, cover the stack with opaque sheeting. Store fittings under cover. Do not remove from cartons or packaging unti required.
