John Fleet married Elizabeth Malyn who would later become Lady Cathcart and thus began a fascinating period of the history of the house, which only ended upon the death of Lady Cathcart in 1789 at the ripe old age of 98. The property had already passed into the ownership of Lord Cowper 4 years previously and following the death of Lady Cathcart, he demolished the original building and replaced it with the house we see today.
