Disconnect power supply efore instlltion. 2 ENSURE THAT MOUNTING ASSEMBLY PREVENTS ACTUATOR ROTATION AND ALLOWS ACTUATOR TO FLOAT ALONG INDICATED AXIS. WHEN TOO TIGHT, THE RESULTING BINDING CAN DAMAGE THE ACTUATOR OR REDUCE TORQUE OUTPUT. ACCESSORY MOUNTING BRACKET IS NOT SUPPLIED WITH THE ACTUATOR. M3054A Loction nd Mounting The ML405, ML45, ML805 nd ML85 DCA re designed to open dmper y driving the dmper shft in either clockwise or counterclockwise direction. The ctutor housing hs two slots on the ottom tht, with Mounting Brcket, secure it flush to dmper ox (see Fig. 2). When mounted correctly, these slots llow the ctutor to flot without rotting reltive to the dmper shft. Equipment Dmge Hzrd. Tightly securing ctutor to dmper housing cn dmge ctutor. Preprtion Before mounting the ctutor onto the dmper shft, determine the dmper shft size (3/8 in. to /2 in. [0 mm to 3 mm]). If dmper shft is 3/8 in. (0 mm) round or squre, use prt numer 2039 Shft Adpter (not supplied with ctutor). Plce dpter opposite set screws (see Fig. 3). NOTE: The dmper shft dpter centers 3/8 in. (0 mm) dmper shft in the hu. Filure to use dpter cn cuse mounting screws to loosen. A /2 in. (3 mm) dmper shft does not require n dpter. NOTE: ML405, ML45, ML805, nd ML85 Actutors re shipped in the fully closed position. 5 Instlltion Device Mlfunction Hzrd. Improper set screw tightening cuses device mlfunction. Tighten set screws with proper torque to prevent dmper shft slippge. Actutor Dmge Hzrd. Using ctutor s shft ering cuses device dmge. Use ctutor only to supply rottionl torque. Avoid ny side lods to ctutor output coupling erings. To instll ctutor, proceed s follows:. Plce ctutor over dmper shft; nd hold mounting rcket in plce. See Fig Mrk screw holes on dmper housing. 3. Remove ctutor nd mounting rcket. 4. Drill or center-punch holes for mounting screws (or use no.0 self-tpping sheet metl screws). 5. Turn dmper ldes to desired norml (closed) position. 6. Plce ctutor nd mounting rcket ck into position nd secure rcket to dmper ox with sheet metl screws. 7. Tighten set screws securely into dmper shft using minimum 30 l-in., mximum 60 l-in. torque. 6 OPERATION The ML405, ML45, ML805, nd ML85 DCA re designed for use in Smoke Control Systems. If power fils, the ctutor spring returns to the 0 position. The ctutor mounts flush with the dmper ox. The ctutor drives from 0 to 95 nd spring returns ck to 0. A rek in power of less thn two seconds cn cuse the ctutor to spring-return 5 degrees or less nd remin in plce until rek in power of longer durtion. The ctutors re operted y n spst two-position controller. When using n spst two-position controller, the ctutor drives to the dmper fully open position when controller contct mkes nd spring returns to the dmper fully closed position when controller contct reks. The ctutor drops to holding power level on detection of stll, independent of hu position. Cycling The ctutor nd the internl spring re designed so tht no specil cycling during long-term holding is required. Honeywell recommends following ll locl, stte, nd ntionl codes for periodic testing of the entire smoke control system. Refer to Ntionl Fire Protection Assocition (NFPA) Ntionl Fire Codes : NFPA90A, NFPA92A, nd NFPA92B for your ppliction. Temperture Indictor The temperture indictor, locted on the cover of the ctutor, provides evidence tht the mient temperture hs exceeded 200 F (93 C). This is n indiction tht something in the uilding hs cused tempertures to rise well ove the long-term ctutor opertion temperture. While the ctutor is cple of operting t 350 F (76 C) for extended periods of time, this indictor provides visul signl tht the ctutor hs een exposed to high tempertures for n undetermined period of time. The indictor provides visul indiction to fire uthorities regrding the extent of dmge fter n event in the uilding. If the indictor turns lck, replce the ctutor. NOTE: The ctutor is designed to operte for 30 minutes during one-time excursion to 350 F (76 C). CHECKOUT ML405A,B nd ML45A,B (20 Vc model). Verify tht the indictor hs not turned lck (see Temperture Indictor section). 2. Check dmper position. 3. Connect 20 Vc to the lck nd white ledwires to drive the dmper to the open position. The ctutor should drive the dmper. 4. If the ctutor does not run, remove power for t lest two seconds. 5. If the ctutor spring returns, llow it to close entirely, then return to step If the ctutor does not spring return, verify tht the ctutor is properly instlled. See Instlltion section. 7. If the ctutor is correctly instlled ut neither runs nor spring returns, replce the ctutor. ML405C,D nd ML45C,D (230 Vc model). Verify tht the indictor hs not turned lck (see Temperture Indictor section). 2. Check dmper position. 3. Connect 230 Vc to the lue nd rown ledwires to drive the dmper to the open position.
